LATEST NEWS

WHAT´S UP IN 2012
I have suffered past years with a lot of pain in my back, but now, after long training and care it seems to help a bit.

I also became a father. We got a son with my fiance Lotta.
Hope, that I can someday be back on track, at least, when our little "Elvis" starts to drive.

See you there.

Season 2011
For the season 2011 I have not made any contract to drive complete series.

Maybe some occasions come up, but this will be the first season since 1995 without driving some full series. Feels little bit odd, but also relieved not to fight all the time with budgets etc, which is a big part of the game.

For sure I will drive some timeattack with Aston Martin and make also quite a lot Taxi-driving with it and who knows what else comes up.

I have a lot to do in private life nowadays.
Daily work to sell and marketing garage equipments for Arpre Oy . Last year we also started suspension business. We import AST-Suspension in Finland and also selling Koni. We have shock service with revalving services with help of a shock dyno. Also we give help for set ups and doing driver coaching on tracks.

Keep you posted
Best wishes

HOCKENHEIM 03-05.09.2010
First European Clio Trophy took place in Hockenheim as a part of an prestigeous WSR-event.
In this event was gathered most of the fastest Clio-drivers from vary european countries. Drivers from more than ten different countries was present.

My preparation was not perfect for this race, in the sense I haven´t drive so much with the Clio. Almost no tests and only two race weekends this year before. Knowing that most of my rivals have had full national programmes and sure some testing.

Anyway I knew, that Madeno will bring me a good prepped car and also I know the Hockenheim track very well. Only thing is that in this kind of though competition you should find the pace and the last tenths right away and it is not so easy with in only 25 min of free practise and the lack of drving lately.

The qualifying went ok. I took fifth place for race one and third for the second one.
Gaps between drivers was very small and it indicated hard races.
My tactics was simple and clear. Stay away from troubles and everything is possible. And so it went.
I was second in both races. Not too bad with this preparation. I also made the fastest laptimes for the whole weekend in the last race. This makes me very happy.
Only thing I was harmed was, that my team collague J.J. Magalhaes was pushed out by Mr Yerly in the first race, when JJ was leading the pack. Well, shit happens sometimes, but it was not nice, that officials said it was JJ:s own fault. Inboard cameras showed, that JJ was pushed out, as he said right away.

For the future it is nice to know, that I can still be on top anywhere. this season six races so far including one victory in Spa and good performance here makes a lot confidence for the future.

Let´s see what happens.
Keep you posted.

ASSEN 3-4.07.2010
I was forced to skip previous planned race in Magny Cours 19-20.06. because I hurt my back a little and was not able to sit or walk in few weeks. Also Assen weekend was little bit in danger.
Anyway I felt myself enough good shape, that we made the race.
Of course laying on bed for three weeks was not the best preparation and the beginning of the weekend was a bit difficult.

In qualifying I was 6th. I made better and better times, but during the last laps there was yellow flags and the time improving should not normally be possible. Obviously here it was, because I was dropped one place during the last lap.

Races were though as always in one make cups.
In the first race I was fighting on podium places, but then some local hero driver hitted me to rear and I almost spun and dropped many places. The hit was strong enough to bend my rear wheel and I couldn´t drive as before. After the race he got a penalty and was dropped behind me. It was quite odd to me, that on Saturday you got a penalty of dropping one place and on Sunday two drivers got 30 second penalty with the same fault?
On Sunday I was unlucky in the start. The Army Lady before me got a really bad start and I couldn´t go anywhere. I dropped far away from the top ten and afterall I was 9th.

We have not decided the next race yet, but before that we should make some tests with the new tyres to be better in qualifying.

Regards
Mikko

SPA 01-02.05.2010

RACE TWO-
MY FIRST WIN IN CLIO CUP
I´m so thrilled. First weekend and first win in highly competitive Dutch Clio cup.
Almost a dream come true after quite disappointed last season.
One make cup racing is almost like "mano to mano" fight.
Same, equal cars, pure fight with teams and drivers.
No politics and behind curtain talks, best team/driver combination wins and that´s it.
The race was as hard I expected, even I lead from start to finish. Sandra drove really good and pushed me whole race. I didn´t make any big mistakes and Sandra didn´t make any stupid things so I was the first in the finnish line.
GREEAAT !!!!

SUNDAY 02.05.
FIRST POLEPOSITION IN CLIO CUP
Sunday morning qualification was wet. I was a little worried before, because I have never drove the car with rain tyres. But I took my first Clio Cup pole position with one second margin. It´s quite a lot in this very competitive one make series.
Eventhough my fastest lap was taken away because in one lap, not the fastest, I was out of the track. It was so slippery that almost everybody was in trouble somewhere. Quite odd decision, but did´t affect my position. JJ was the second fastest, but when they took also his fastest lap away, he dropped down 11th.
Pole is always the best place to start, but race is race and we´ll see later in the evening what happens. Let you know.

SATURDAY 01.05.
Spa raceweekend didn´t start too well.
In the first quali I made a schoolboy mistake and destroyed my front tyres on too heavy braking in the first fast lap. That´s why I could not follow my team mate JJ and we couldn´t make any slipstreaming which is a must overhere. So P13 to JJ and P16 to me.
First race was only surving and in the end P9 to me and P7 to JJ.
My race pace was good and I made second fastest lap time and was on top in sectortimes. I wait eagerly for the second quali on Sunday morning.
